Canyon Elementary 2025-2026
Canyon Elementary will focus on four goals for the upcoming school year.
Goal #1:
EL Students in grades 3-6 will increase their proficiency from 0% to 5% on RISE ELA by the spring of 2026.
Canyon has been designated as a school on Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) for our English Language Learners by the Utah State Board of Education. In grades 3-6, 0% of our EL students scored proficient on the 2024 RISE ELA test as compared to 46% proficiency for all students which indicates a 46% gap. RISE data from the past four years along with a Comprehensive Needs Assessment conducted by Innovations Ed consulting group was helpful identifying our most critical academic need. Acadience Reading Benchmark and Progress monitoring data will be used to gauge progress on basic reading skills throughout the year for all students K-5. This data will be reviewed regularly in grade level and school level team PLC meetings. ELA RISE Summative and Benchmark testing data will be used in grades 3-6 to measure progress and success toward this goal.
Action Plan:
1. English Language Acquisition Plans (ELAP's) will be completed and reviewed by teachers, student support leader and administrator for EL students to identify supports needed for students at risk of not reaching benchmark reading targets.
2. Paraprofessional support will be provided to assist classroom teachers in all grades during core English Language Arts [Reading] instruction to provide additional student support to close the learning gaps specifically in our EL population. This support will be provided based on individual student need. [$106,636.34]
3. Curriculum resources will be reviewed to strengthen program coherence between Tiers 1, 2, 3 instruction.
4. The Acadience Benchmark reading assessment will be administered three times during the school year [Fall, Winter, Spring] to all students Kindergarten through Fifth grade.
5. Acadience Progress monitoring assessments will be administered weekly, bi-weekly or monthly for students at-risk for not achieving reading targets. This information will be sent home to parents regularly. PLC teams will review the data to plan instruction and monitor student progress toward individual and school wide goals.
Action step 2. Paraprofessional support will be provided to assist classroom teachers in all grades during core English Language Arts [Reading] instruction to provide additional student support to close the learning gaps specifically in our EL population. This support will be provided based on individual student need. [$104,636.34]
