The CCLR fundraiser was a huge success. We raised $19,000 dollars. A large amount of these funds will go to field trips to allow these students with opportunities to go to places they may not have gone to otherwise. We attempt to not double up so that each grade has a signature place to go.
-
Stacie asked for any ideas that the community wants to keep going at Canyon during the transition to a new principal. Some of the major ones mentioned were:
a. Super Spirit Friday
b.CCLR Fundraiser
c. PIN Nights-Stacie mentioned a hope that principals of Title 1 schools should work together to share resources?
d. Leadership week-Upcoming year would be ARTS, Play?? Britta Brown
E. Leadership teams-Parents have expressed how their kids have really enjoyed doing those.
f. Hitching Post-We have liked the slides and voice-over format Stacie has done.
-
Stacie mentioned one area that may need improvement next year is the “Safe Routes to School.” This is an area that may need to be reviewed, especially with more homes being built in the Elk Mountain subdivision.
-
Cassie mentioned the drop off procedures may need some reviewing as well. She mentioned the need to reiterate how to use the drop off lanes and emphasized that there are TWO lanes.
-
Stacie asked of the parents, “Is there a perceived idea within the community that Canyon has a bullying problem?”
-
Cassie and Tiffany didn’t not feel that there was one. However, a widely seen Facebook post was mentioned where a parent was voicing concern about her child being bullied. Stacie mentioned that she had been notified of that, and had a good conversation with the parent.
-
Stacie mentioned the need to encourage parents and the community to please let us know of any problems, and keep communication open so that we are aware and can help when there is a problem. If we don’t know, we can’t help!
-
Cassie mentioned that the Angel Tree is a tradition we would still like to do at Canyon.
-
Most of our Traditions we should still be able to do. The feeling of Canyon comes from all our extra traditions and activities that bring us together!
-
Stacie didn’t have anything else.
-
Cassie called to close the meeting.
-
Stacie motioned to end the meeting.
-
Pass on to Leslie that it helps to have multiple formats for SCC especially for the moms that have so many places to be!
-
Meeting was concluded for the 2021-2022 school year.

School Community Council Meeting
Wednesday Mar 29, 2022
3:15pm
-
Cassie started the meeting.
-
Sarah read the minutes from the last meeting.
-
Cassie motioned to approve the minutes.
-
Stacie seconded the motion.
-
Stacie presented the SIP/Trustland’s goal.
-
Canyon’s goals are set for each grade level versus schoolwide as most schools do. This allows us to set targeted individual goals to serve more students.
-
Reading and Math goals are set by the outgoing grade level teachers for the next school year.
-
Funds will be allocated to pay for iReady-$3500
-
$16,000 to pay for subs for monthly grade level PLC meetings.
The remaining amount goes towards increasing the amount of touchscreen chromebooks and ipads.
After reviewing each goal and expenditures Stacie called for the vote of approval on the SIP/ Trustlands Goals.
All approved and no one objected.
-
Stacie then presented the Title One plan for 2021-2022. The plan and goals are the same as the Trustlands goals and plans.
-
As Stacie finilizes those plans for 2021-2022 she will push them out and require digital signatures and approvals.
-
PIN night has been pushed aside for now due to Stacie’s surgery and the need to do the “Seven Habits for highly effective Families.” Logan Smith is teaching this and it will span several weeks.
-
We will have one last PIN night before summer to end out the year.
February 2022 Minutes
School Community Council Meeting
February 22,2022
Wednesday 3:15pm
-
Cassie started the meeting.
-
Sarah read the minutes from the previous meeting.
-
The minutes were motioned to be approved by Cassie and Stacie seconded them.
-
Stacie then reviewed the Trustland’s Final report for 2020-2021. She briefed the council on each item and the process she took.
-
Stacie then opened a discussion on the current SIP or Schoolwide Improvement Plan and how it matches the Title One Plan.
-
We then discussed the SIP plan for 2021-2022.
-
The topics for that plan included discussions about using funds to get touch Chromebooks for the first grade. This would bring us to our 1:1 ratio one technology for the school.
-
We discussed the funds available for PLC time for grade levels to use either as paid time in the evenings our afternoons and subs would take their classes. There are funds for each month should the grade level team choose to use them.
-
There are also funds to add math and EL aides- the council chose to approve that usage.
-
Remaining funds will also be used for our annual allotment to Library books, Reflex and Reading Counts.
-
Cassie motioned to adjourn the meeting and several others seconded the motion.

SCC Meeting
Tuesday October 26, 2021
-
Sarah read the minutes for the last meeting
-
Cassie motioned to accept the minutes and Stacie seconded the motion.
-
Staice brought up the topic of discussing how we were going to use Solution Tree monies. Those funds amount to $12,000.
-
One concern is the sub shortage issue and burn out issue. It has been difficult trying to cover all the absences. Teachers are stressing about large amounts of students missing school and instruction.
-
Earlier we thought we would be doing day training with the Solution Tree curriculum. We have decided against this due to the sub shortage.
-
One option for the funds would be to take all $12,000 and allocate it out to Chromebooks to get us to 1:1.
-
Currently we are waiting on the carts to house the Chromebooks. Chromebooks are being held at the district office.
-
One option is to hire another math aid with the funds.
-
We are using Sierra and Melissa to cover absences.
-
We decided to focus the money to hire a person to cover math and reading aides if there is any extra it will go towards technology
-
Stacie motioned to approve and Sarah seconded
-
The next topic discussed was the carry over of TSSA funds for $15,000. It should tie to our goals.
-
Reading , math and counseling center
$15,000 for people- 1 or 2
$12,000 for computers
-

Aimed at helping out ELL’s pass the WIDA and the RISE.
-
Currently for ELL we have 2.5 Teachers and 5 Aides.
-
EL’s are pulled during writing and aides pushed in during ELA.
-
This year aides are also pushing in for math in some classes.
-
Stacie described how this helps them not miss their classroom content.
-
WIDA test that is taken in January/February. When they pass before they leave Elementary this gives them the option to choose their own classes in upper grades. If not they are locked into majority language classes.
-
Our focus is getting them to pass the RISE. We need to help influence a cultural change in families to help them focus more on education and see the benefits of supporting their students.
