Principal's News
We march into March with Parent Teacher Conferences, Thursday, March 6th. All Full Day Kindergarten-6th grade students will be released at 1:00 with conferences later that afternoon and evening until 7:30 p.m. On Friday, March 7th, there is not school for all students and conferences in the morning until noon. Our AM/PM Kindergarten students will be off on both Thursday and Friday for teachers to complete conferences. Our teachers work hard to prepare to share important information with each of you during this scheduled meeting time. This is an important time to connect with your child's teacher about their learning. Call the school to arrange a time if you haven't yet set up a time online. We set the goal of communication with 100% of our parents. Thanks!
The Monday after Parent Conferences we will be kicking off our One School One Book event where our entire school family -- students, parents, faculty, staff -- will be reading and sharing the book, The Toothpaste Millionaire by Jean Merrill. This is a fun book that will spark the imagination of our budding entrepreneurs. Do we have future millionaires with the next great idea in our school? It will capture all ages - even the grown ups! Plan to begin reading on Monday, March 10th. One book for each family will be sent home with the youngest student in the school. Follow the Reading schedule, which is only about 10-15 minutes per night. Students will be able to answer the trivia questions the following day for a chance to win prizes. We will end the experience with a fun family Literacy Night on Monday, March 24th at 6 p.m. Mark your calendar to join us. Go reading!
A big thank you to our parents who help to keep our student pick up and drop off line moving by pulling all the way up along the curb. It's okay for our children to walk a little down the sidewalk to the front doors. It slows traffic and backs up the line when you stop to early to get closer to the doors. If you arrive early for pick up please pull all the way up along the curb closer to the gym. This will help the line of cars who have to wait along the side of the road. We are currently checking with the city to see if we can remove the parking stalls along the road to help this line up be closer to the curb. Your child's safety matters. We appreciate your patience and help with this.
Also, as we gear up for our last few months of school we have some important instructional weeks ahead of us. Thank you for helping your child to be here at school on time and ready to learn each day. Please help us to help your children learn by limiting absences. Even a few days missed from school for appointments, events, or a family vacation and a student can miss instruction for an entire math concept or other information which could mean missing out on critical knowledge needed both now and in future grade levels. We do our best to help students catch up. When an absence is unavoidable, please touch base with teachers about how to make up missed instruction. The connection between home and school is so important -- let us know how we can help. Every DAY and every STUDENT matters!

Principal News April 2025
Welcome back from Spring Break! I hope you were all able to find some time to re-charge whether that was by getting out of the valley or just spending quality time at home. These last 8 weeks of school are packed full with opportunities for continuing learning, showing how much we have learned, and celebrating a great year. This past month we introduced Colt Kudos to recognize the amazing acts of kindness by our Canyon Colts throughout the school. These play on the TV by the gym/cafeteria throughout the day. All submissions are reviewed before posting. We ask for no student last names and specific reasons for your shout out. Take a look for yourself: https://youuplift.com/canyon-elementary-kindness-wall/
It’s End of Year assessment time! Students in 3rd through 6th grade will be taking the State RISE Test for ELA, Writing, Math, and Science. The testing window is open now through May 23rd so watch for information from your child’s teacher. Limiting absences during these testing days will be a big help. You can also help your students shine by making sure that they come to school after a good night’s sleep and eat a good breakfast either at home or at school. Your encouragement to just do their best and to not give up will also be great motivation. We want students to know that their best effort matters, but do not want to stress them out. It is just a snapshot of the many great things they have been learning and doing all year. You can talk with the classroom teacher for more specific information.
All students Kindergarten through 6th grade will be participating in our End of Year Acadience reading assessment day on Tuesday, May 6th. Kindergarten students will be doing the End of Year KEEP assessments in April/May as well. A lot to finish up before the end of this school year.
One more push for Kindergarten Registration - If your child or someone you know will be starting Kindergarten this year we NEED to get them registered NOW to be able to plan. Begin this on the District Website at https://www.ccsdut.org/enrollment/kindergarten-registration. Then you will get an email to finish up the registration by bringing in your necessary paperwork to the office. Thank you for helping us spread the word!
Additionally, as we begin to plan for next year NOW is the time for parents to provide input to us about your child as we begin to plan classes for next year. Student Placement Parent Input forms are available in the front office until April 30th. Due to the confidential nature of this form they will need to be picked up and returned by an adult. This form offers you an opportunity to share input regarding your child for the upcoming school year. Please understand that this is not an opportunity to "pick" your teacher as there are many things that factor into making up classes. Every effort is made to balance the classes, scholastically, socially, behaviorally, and for the number of boys and girls. Now is the time to share any concerns or information with us at the beginning of this process. There are no guarantees, but we try to address all concerns and input during this planning period. August is too late once class lists have all been created. I have full confidence in all of our classroom teachers to provide a wonderful education.
We are also looking for 5-6 people willing to volunteer to serve on our School Community Council!
The council meets about 5 times per school year with a 2 year term commitment if possible. Please consider taking advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the important things happening in our school and to provide input. Watch for the SCC form coming home this week. Use the QR code if you’d rather complete this online. Contact Leslie Burt if you have any questions. WE NEED YOU!
A few fun activities are being planned to finish out the year. We will be looking forward to these in May. I want to send you all a BIG, VERY BIG THANK YOU for all of your support throughout the year. You have all proven once again that we have the best students, parents, teachers and staff here at Canyon Elementary. Let’s continue to work together to Finish STRONG!

Principal News
Wow! Where has the year gone? We have a lot to pack into our last month of school. We will be finishing up our end of year assessments: RISE, KEEP iReady , Acadience, etc. You can help us by encouraging students to work hard to the end and to attend regularly. Please try to limit absences. We all start feeling a little anxious for Summer, but if it is a school day, it is a learning day. We also have a lot of fun activities planned to finish out the year. Thank you for your support!!
Watch for Student Pledge sheets coming home on May 2nd for out fundraising Canyon Colts " Run for Fun". The money raised supports all the FUN things at school, especially the rising busing costs for field trips, schoolwide reading program, positive student incentives, kindness programs, assemblies and many more extras throughout the year. ALL the money raised goes directly to support the students! Did you know that one field trip costs the school between $500 and $1000 for busing alone? Without these extra FUN[ds] we wouldn't be able to continue many of the extras beyond the regular school classroom cirriculum. So, get ready and mark your calendars! On Monday, May 12th we will be running! You are invited to come cheer your student(s) on during their scheduled running time. So don't forget to check backpacks regularly for more information.
A BIG thank you to our PTA again this month for Teacher Appreciation Week and Super Kids Day celebrations! It's a lot to pack into one month. We truly appreciate their hard work and support for our school all year long.
Some BIG news about changes at Canyon next year. Mrs. Burt is retiring at the end of this school year. We will work together to make the transition as smooth as possible. Once a new principal has been selected we will get you more information. In the meantime I know great things will continue at Canyon!
Also, looking ahead to next year, class lists will be posted mid June. Just a reminder that if you have any input for us to concider as we plan these classes we need to have this information NOW. Once lists are posted we are no longer able to make request changes.
Now, just a little bit of information about our LAST DAY of school:
- AM/PM Kindergarten last day of school is Thursday, May 29th [Regular Schedule]
- Full Day Kindergarten, 1st-6th Grade last day is Friday, May 30th @ 1:05pm
- YES, breakfast and lunch will be SERVED on the last day of school.
Each grade level also has planned some fun activities to wrap up the year. Let me just personally thank everyone who is part of our Canyon Elementary family for making this a wonderful year. We have the best students, partents, teachers and staff in the world.
Let's work together to Finish STRONG!

Canyon Family!
I cannot believe we are at the end of the school year! I have loved helping Canyon these last few years and loved getting to know all of you! We have a new PTA President coming in, Bryndi Mair, who will be absolutely amazing! I know that this job couldn't be done without all of the help from each of you! I thank you for your support and your willingness to serve! We are in the middle of teacher appreciation week and, like every year, it is one of my favorite weeks! I know that each of the members of the Canyon Staff impacts the lives of our children and it is an honor to show them some love! Coming at the end of this month we have Super Kids Day and will need lots of help so be looking for a sign up so you can help us make this day successful for our cute kiddos!

Summer 2025 Canyon Newsletter

Principal Newsletter
Dear Canyon Families,

You made it to Summer!! I hope you know how truly excited I am to be a Canyon Colt! From the moment I walked through the doors, I could feel the positive energy and strong sense of community that make this school such a special place.
I've been an educator for over 20 years, most recently serving as the RTI Facilitator at Lewiston Elementary. I absolutely love working with kids-their unmatched energy, honesty, and excitement about learning are contagious. I've already had the chance to meet a few students and staff, and it's clear that Canyon is a place where strong, caring relationships are at the heart of everything. I am committed to continuing that tradition and making sure every student feels safe, known, loved, and empowered to learn.
A little about me: I'm a Cache Valley native, raised on a dairy farm in Richmond, where honest, hard work was instilled in me from a young age. My husband, Cody, and I are raising our three kids in Richmond. We love everything this beautiful valley has to offer-you'll usually find us skiing, mountain biking, hiking, or camping as a family.
As we head into summer, I hope you take time to relax and reenergize. Encourage your child to read a book under a tree, play a few math games, spend time outside, and take a break from screens. A little unplugged time and a lot of sunchine can go along way in preparing for an amazing year ahead.
I can't wait to get to know each of you. Please don't hesitate to introduce yourself or just say hello! Wishing you a fun, safe, and memory-filled summer. I'll see you in August!
Warmly,
Holly Corbridge
